Bobby Womack - Please Forgive My Heart
…new single from Womack’s first solo album in 20 years #SoulfulSundays
Bobby Womack is a late-’60s/early-’70s soul legend with a crazy number of gritty classics to his name. In the past few years, he’s guested on tracks from the Gorillaz’ Plastic Beach and The Fall, and he’s toured with the group. Gorillaz leader Damon Albarn and XL Records boss Richard Russell are both serving as producers, and first single “Please Forgive My Heart” is the sort of spare, evocative electro-soul that Russell gave to Gil Scott-Heron on Scott-Heron’s final album I’m New Here. - stereogum.com
Bobby Womack’s new LP The Bravest Man In The Universe, is out June 12 on XL
Charles Bradley - How Long
In his 50’s and living in Brooklyn making a living moonlighting as a James Brown impersonator in local clubs under the name “Black Velvet,” Bradley was discovered by Gabriel Roth, co-founder of Daptone Records. Roth introduced Bradley to Daptone artist Tom Brennek, who invited Bradley to his band’s rehearsal. Bradley asked that the band simply perform while he made up lyrics on the spot. After writing several songs, with Daptone releasing some of them on vinyl starting in 2002, ten were chosen and released as Bradley’s debut album
No Time For Dreaming in 2011.
At the age of 63 Bradley is currently performing his original material and as “Black Velvet” in venues across America. Read more about Charles’ incredible life story HERE.
