……ASAD has been eagerly awaiting Purity Ring’s debut album since first hearing the single Belispeak nearly a year ago. It did not disappoint.
“Purity Ring smashes together virtually every signifier of modern, up-to-the-second electronic pop: washy throbs, synths that sparkle and seethe, hints of hip-hop in the beats, a cooing voice that’s all the more haunting for the way it’s smeared with AutoTune. But don’t mistake the Montreal duo’s first full-length album, Shrines, for mere hype-bait. There are bright, charming, provocative songs in here, and they almost invariably find a way to meet in the middle between Bjork’s otherworldly eclecticism and the sweet lilt of The Sundays.” - NPR.org
With The xx’s eagerly anticipated sophomore album ‘Coexist’ coming out the 11th of September and the first single from said album freshly released, we already have a nice reworking of “Angels” from French producer Andrea. He takes a refreshing approach to the remix, with minimal alterations to the original composition - adding some well constructed spaces through out the track.
Please Stay - also known as (Don’t Go) Please Stay - is an early hit of The Drifters featuring then new lead singer Rudy Lewis who replaced Ben E. King (and who looks a bit like late 80’s/early 90’s Ralph Tresvant in the photo above). It is one of songwriter Burt Bacharach’s early pop hits.
