Paid in Duke - Gene Chandler’s Duke Of Earl vs. Eric B & Rakim’s Paid in Full 

My First Mashup:

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Michael from The Flash Dance collective mashed up Gene Chandler’s Duke Of Earl with Eric B & Rakim’s Paid in Full at a party I attended.  One of my favorite 60’s doo-wop tunes mixed with one of my favorite classic rap songs.   I loved it so much I wrote to ask if a recorded version existed.  One did not.  Inspired, I reached out to my talented musician/producer friend Blake who helped me create this mash up as a sort of birthday present.  I am really happy with the result.  I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.

Gene Chandler - Duke Of Earl  (c. 1962)

Michael from The Flash Dance collective mashed up Chandler’s Duke Of Earl over the break from Eric B & Rakim’s Paid in Full at the Airplanes & Blazers party I attended.  One of my favorite 60’s tunes mixed with one of my favorite rap songs.  Genius.   I loved it so much I wrote to ask if a recorded version existed.  Sadly for me, one does not.  But, he was kind enough to write back and tell me that he usually mixes Duke Of Earl with Cypress Hill’s - Hand On The Pump and DJ Shadow’s - The Number Song (Cut Chemist Mix) which there is a video of here - http://www.theflashdance.com/index.cfm?postID=192 (scroll to the bottom of the post; also embedded below).  Rad!
